Language

Language: Language under Montessori is dealt through phonetic approach. Phonetic approach being the study and application of sound-letter relationship. Children learn through perception of sounds rather than memorizing letters in a word. Unlike the traditional method where children learn language English through memorization, Montessori method encourages the child to perceive read and write. Language under Montessori is a graded phonetic approach where the child begins with pink kit. Pink kit being the kit which follows 3-lettered words with 2 consonants and a vowel preferably in the center acts as a preliminary and simple exercises to help the child comfort himself and gain confidence in reading and writing. Once the child has mastered pink kit he moves onto the next hierarchy that is blue kit. Blue kit being the kit which follows 4 to 5-lettered words with double consonants and blends in them leads the child towards mastery over longer words. Next level of complexity in the hierarchy is green kit which contains phonograms in them. The learning of phonograms diminishes the orthographic difficulties in children. It throws light upon the difference between monophthongs and diphthongs. The child is also introduced to phonogram families where different combination of letters give a same sound and same combination making different sounds. This section under language English is the most complicated part which is simplified through a structured and ordered scheme. This makes the child master over the language with logical understanding and ease. Grammar : Grammar is dealt in two different levels, one being phonetic reading grammar and the other being non-phonetic reading grammar. Phonetic reading grammar starts lessons upon parts of speech such as noun, adjective, articles, and verb. Grammar activities are done in groups so as to break the monotony and make it interesting. Grammar activities are introduced through interesting games where the child is attracted and motivated to the activity. The child masters over parts of speech with a spontaneous ease and perceives it better. Non-phonetic grammar: Non-phonetic grammar is a reinforcement upon what the child has already learnt under phonetic reading grammar and has few extended activities such as different rules of making plurals and use of noun-adjective and verb-adverb combinations.
